The Brokenwood Winery, situated in the Hunter Valley, New South Wales, expanded its outdoor capabilities in 2021 by contracting Blindmaster to install a new awning system from markilux. This modernized outdoor terrace can now host events and wine tastings regardless of weather conditions.

Over the past 50 years, Brokenwood has established itself as one of Australia’s premier wineries, located approximately 165 kilometers northwest of Sydney. While tours and tastings are popular, the estate’s large outdoor terrace had not yet been fully utilized—until now. To unlock its potential, the winery’s management decided to install a comprehensive awning system.

The Benefits of the Sun Shading Solution

Enhanced Use of Outdoor Space: By combining different awning models, the terrace—covering nearly 180 square meters—achieves maximum flexibility. The system includes three markilux markant units and four markilux 970 folding-arm awnings along the sides and front, allowing selective shading depending on the sun’s position.

Weather Protection: The awnings also serve as shields against rain, ensuring guests can enjoy outdoor seating even during sporadic showers. When the weather is clear, the awnings retract, providing an unobstructed view and open-air experience.

Extended Comfort: Additional features such as dimmable LED lighting create an inviting atmosphere for evening dining. Infrared heaters complement the setup, allowing the terrace to be comfortably used day or night, regardless of temperature.
